  JORGE HERRERA - DOC & Academy Director


 Jorge Herrera started his soccer career in the Colombian youth system of South America.  He also played  professionally in South America and Paraguay for Independiente, Athletico National, Huracan, and  Millionarios. 

 

 In 2007 Jorge moved to the United States and signed with the Charlotte Eagles, playing 8 seasons and  making over 150 appearances.  In his eight USL seasons, Herrera tallied 53 goals and 29 assists (only the second player to score over 50 goals in USL history). He was named First Team USL Second Division in 2008, 2009 and 2010, as well as First Team USL PRO in 2011 and USL PRO All-League Second Team in 2013 and 2014. He was USL league MVP finalist in 2008. 

 

In 2014 Jorge became the first player signed in the history of the Charlotte Independence. Jorge has played 3 seasons with the Independence and made over 80 appearances scoring 24 goals with 11 assists. In 2017 Jorge Herrera was awarded the 2017 Fans Player of the Year, Goal of the Year, and Moment of the Year for his hat trick against St Louis. He is widely considered the greatest soccer player in Charlotte history.

 

In addition to his extensive playing career, Jorge has coached at the college, high school and club level. He has served as assistant coach at Southern Wesleyan University, Charlotte Christian High, and Covenant Day. At the club level, Jorge has coached for the Charlotte Eagles and Charlotte Soccer Academy. 


He has a true passion for kids and soccer development. He is FCC’s first Vice President and will also serve as a coach as well as Director of Technical Development. 


ABBEY FRAIL - Director of GK

Abbey Frail is a North Carolina native, originally from Winston Salem, playing for Twin City Youth Soccer Association, and North Carolina Fusions ECNL program in her youth. Frail has spent the last four years playing college soccer at Wingate University, captaining the team for two years. She graduated from the university in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in history and will serve as the Graduate Assistant coach for the bulldogs beginning in November of 2019.


Abbey has been coaching soccer in some capacity since she was 17, beginning as an assistant coach with NC Fusion. After coaching in the NC ODP system and for various school teams throughout college, she joined FCC’s Youth Academy in in 2019. Additionally, she has worked with No1 Soccer Camps for the past 5 years, serving as both a staff coach and goalkeeper director at various sites across the United States. She also possesses a USSF E and D license, as well as a United Soccer Coaches GK Level 1 Diploma.
